FAQs

Eligibility and Referrals

How does the referral process work?

Referrals come through Oregon's Office of Developmental Disabilities Services (ODDS). A child must be enrolled with ODDS and have completed the eligibility and assessment process before a referral can be made. If you are a family just beginning this process, we are happy to point you in the right direction.

What diagnoses or conditions do you support?

We support children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, autism, mental health conditions, trauma histories, behavioral support needs, and complex or at-risk backgrounds. Children may have more than one diagnosis. We review each referral individually to determine whether our program is the right fit.

Can families reach out directly, or does everything go through ODDS?

Families are welcome to contact us with questions at any time. Formal placement, however, is coordinated through ODDS and the referral process.

What if we are not sure whether our child qualifies?

Contact your local Community Developmental Disabilities Program (CDDP) for guidance on eligibility. You are also welcome to reach out to us with questions, we can help you understand whether our program may be a fit and what steps to take.

The Home and Daily Life

What does a typical day look like?

Every child has a unique daily routine based on their individual schedule, preferences, and needs. We tailor our services to provide personalized support and ensure each child receives the care and assistance they need to thrive.

No two days are exactly the same. Children are encouraged to make choices and develop independence in their daily lives, including selecting meals, establishing wake-up routines, and participating in activities that interest them. Our goal is to create a supportive environment where each child feels respected, empowered, and supported.

Do children have their own bedroom?

Yes

How are meals handled?

Meals are prepared in the home. We take each child's food preferences, nutritional needs, and any dietary restrictions into account when planning meals.

Are children able to bring personal belongings?

Yes. Children are encouraged to bring personal belongings and items that are meaningful or important to them, as long as the available space allows. Bedrooms are furnished with a bed, dresser, table/desk, and closet. However, with prior agreement, room furnishings and arrangements may be adjusted to accommodate the child's individual needs and preferences.

What community activities are available?

Children in our homes participate in local activities, recreational events, and community outings based on their interests and abilities. We actively support each child's involvement in the broader Redmond community.

Staffing and Safety

Who takes care of the children?

Our Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) are trained to state standards and on-site 24 hours a day. Each DSP works directly with children on daily care, skill building, and emotional support.

What training do staff receive?

After successfully passing the state's background check and completing all mandatory training, our staff are thoroughly vetted and prepared to support children through the challenges that may arise. We provide ongoing support, mentorship, and professional guidance to help staff feel confident and capable in their roles. Regular staff check-ins and team meetings are also held to promote communication, collaboration, and consistent care.

How do you handle behavioral challenges or crises?

We follow the Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR) and fulfill our responsibilities as mandatory reporters. Our staff use a calm, trauma-informed approach to assess and respond to behavioral challenges and crisis situations while prioritizing the safety and well-being of everyone involved. We work to de-escalate situations, provide appropriate support, and follow each child's individualized support plan to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Is the home licensed and certified by the state?

Yes!

Family Involvement

How involved can families be?

Family involvement is encouraged throughout placement. Families are included in support planning meetings, welcome to visit, and kept informed of their child's progress on a regular basis.

We hold regular team meetings that include family members, caseworkers, and relevant providers. confirm frequency

What happens if there is a concern or incident?

When a concern or incident occurs, the safety and well-being of the child is our immediate priority. Our staff respond promptly, follow established procedures, and take appropriate steps to ensure safety. Families and caseworkers are kept informed, and incidents are carefully documented and reviewed. When needed, we work with the child’s support team to create follow-up plans and identify ways to provide continued support and prevent future concerns.
