Friendship 24 Hour Care exists to provide high-quality, person-centered residential support for children and youth with IDD and complex needs in Central Oregon. We are committed to transparency, individual outcomes, and the kind of care that sees each child as a whole person with a future worth investing in.
Why We Started This Work
Our work is rooted in personal experience and a deep commitment to supporting children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Having worked as caregivers, we have experienced both the rewarding and challenging sides of this industry. These experiences inspired us to create a different approach - one that is proactive, compassionate, and centered on the individual needs of every child.
We believe in listening to children, understanding their unique conditions and needs, and seeing each child as a whole person - not simply a diagnosis. Our goal is to provide meaningful support, encouragement, and opportunities that empower children to build confidence, pursue their goals, and achieve their full potential.
We also recognize that stigma and a lack of understanding around IDD still exist. Through our work, we are committed to promoting greater awareness, acceptance, and inclusion while creating an environment where every child feels valued, understood, and supported.
How We Think About Care
Person-Centered
We start with the individual child, their diagnosis, their history, their preferences, and their goals. Individual support plans are built around that child specifically, not around a program template.
Proactive, Not Reactive
We do not wait for problems to escalate before responding. Our team works continuously with families, caseworkers, and providers to stay ahead of challenges and adjust support before small issues become larger ones.
Family as Partners
Families are not an afterthought in our model. They are part of the team. We involve family members in individual support planning, hold regular meetings, and keep communication consistent so that the people who love these children stay connected to their progress.
Community as Part of Care
Children in our homes are part of the Redmond community. We support participation in local activities, recreational events, and opportunities that build confidence, connection, and independence.
The Children We Support
We provide residential support for children and youth who are enrolled with Oregon's Office of Developmental Disabilities Services (ODDS) and have been assessed for group home placement. We work with children across a range of needs including:
Intellectual and developmental disabilities
Mental health conditions
At-risk and complex backgrounds
Post-traumatic experiences
Behavioral support needs
We serve children and youth until the age of 18 and work with families, caseworkers, and ODDS to determine fit and begin the referral process.
The People Behind the Care
Every staff member at Friendship 24 Hour Care completes state-approved Direct Support Professional training before working with children in our homes. Our team also participates in ongoing training to continue developing their skills in first aid and CPR, trauma-informed care, and positive behavior support. We believe strong relationships are at the heart of quality care, which is why we focus on building a supportive team culture and retaining dedicated staff who know and care about the children and families we serve.
